I painted this building because it has that everyday kind of confidence. It is not trying to be charming, but it is, simply because it is well-built, well-used, and full of small practical choices that make it feel real. A bright awning. Big windows. A balcony above. A door that stands out like a clear invitation.
I started with the color contrast. The awning is a strong, clean blue, like a patch of sky pinned to the facade. The door is a deep red, warm and slightly textured, with watercolor blooms that make it feel like it has been touched by time. I kept the storefront windows quiet with pale blinds, so the exterior becomes the focus and the whole scene feels calm, almost meditative.
Upstairs, the balcony and those two little air-conditioning units are details I could not resist. They make the building feel inhabited and practical, like someone is actually inside living their day, not just existing as part of a pretty street view.
This piece is for anyone who loves simple architecture, bold color pairing, and painted places that feel like they belong to a real neighborhood.
